XTech 2008 is now over
Thanks to everybody who participated. Presentations and papers are available to download from this web site.
This evening we have a packed schedule, including:
See you there!
Welcome to Dublin and XTech 2008.
A wireless network is available. Guests of the Radisson can use their room number to log in, others should visit the Registration Desk to get access details. Please be a good network neighbour, and avoid downloading large files or other network-hungry activity.
Unfortunately Blaine Cook has been unable to make it to present Building the Real-Time Web but a panel of his colleagues, chaired by programme committee member Matt Biddulph, will be replacing him.
The session “Web 2.0 – the Enterprise Mashup” (4pm, Goldsmiths 2) has unfortunately been cancelled.
In just a few days’ time XTech 2008 will be underway in Dublin.
If you’ve not registered online, don’t worry, as you can register on-site at the conference itself.
XTech 2008 kicks off with tutorial day, featuring expert instructors on XML and Web 2.0 topics.
Then on Wednesday keynote speakers Simon Wardley and David Recordon will open up the conference proper, followed by two and a half days of parallel conference sessions.
On Wednesday night there’ll be a reception hosted by sponsor Just Systems, and on Thursday night the BBC are sponsoring a reception, to be followed by the fast, entertaining and informative Lightning Talks.
Finally, on Friday XTech will be brought to a close by the wry observations and wit of Sean McGrath, with his presentation Orangutans, Oxen and Ogham stones. Mulling the movable Web.
See you in Dublin!
20:20 Lightning Talks are short presentations designed to be a fun, interesting and compact way for many ideas to be communicated in a short space of time.
The 20:20 format encourages highly focused, fast-moving presentations, and helps to keep audience attention riveted on each presentation, to keep things a bit unpredictable and surprising, and to keep presentations “fat free” without any lulls.
Maybe you have a new idea you’d like to try out, or a new project you’re starting. A lightning talk is a great way to tell others about it without the burden of a full presentation and paper!
Participation and attendance is open to any registered XTech attendee. Space is limited, so read more and book your 20:20 slot now!
A number of O’Reilly authors or forthcoming authors will be presenting at XTech 2008.
During the reception on Wednesday 7th May, come and meet Doug Tidwell, Doug Crockford, Eric van der Vlist, and Edd Dumbill around the O’Reilly table.
There you will be able to ask them their latest plans, talk about the latest technologies they are involved with or even ask them what it is like to write a book for O’Reilly.
XTech is the premier European conference for developers, information designers and managers working with web and standards-based technologies. We bring together the worlds of web development, open source, Web 2.0 and open standards.
The theme for this year’s conference is “The Web on the Move”. For years we have been developing and promoting open data standards, enabling data portability. Recent developments have led to web-wide programming APIs and virtualization. It’s no longer just our data on the move, it’s our applications and even our servers too.
What impact will this era of unprecedented portability have on us? How should we change the way we build for the web? XTech 2008 will examine the technology, war stories and practical concerns of developing for today’s web.
XTech is organized by IDEAlliance.
